Gastown
Named after John Deighton (back then he was called "Gassy Jack") a retired riverboat captain who opened a saloon in 1867. Millworkers and Klondike gold miners use to stop at Gastown to stock up on provisions and drink whiskey. The Great Fire in 1886 burned down most of the buildings in Gastown; today two stand where there use to 400. The Streets are made of cobblestone and are complimented with antique street lamps along the sides. Gastown Steam Clock
Located on a street corner of this Victorian-era warehouse district stands the world's first steam clock, and probably the city's most photographed attraction. The clock was built to cover a steam vent and is powered almost entirely by steam. The well-known timepiece is a favourite photo subject with visitors, who wait for the sounding of the Westminster chimes and their accompanying rush of steam to get the perfect shot. Ray Saunders, a well-known inventor and clockmaker, unveiled his creation in 1977. The clock stands at almost five metres (16.9 feet) tall, it weighs a hefty two tons.

Visit the Jericho Beach and Pier for a picnic and a bit of fishing.
