Terrace is located approximately 550 air miles northwest of Vancouver. The City is located on a series of natural flat benches, or terraces within the broad Skeena River Valley. Popular activities include fishing, checking out the lava beds and hoping for a chance to see the rare Kermode bear. There are plenty more activities for visitors, including swimming, boating, camping, hiking and more.

Things to do in Terrace

Copper River
Copper River or Zymoetz, meets the great Skeena a few miles out of Terrace, about 600 miles north of Vancouver. No hatchery fish inhabit the entire Skeena River system - all are native. You will find the legendary Steelhead and Oncorhynchus mykiss, known for their strength, endurance, and size.

Copper River Fossil Beds
The fossils you might find date back to 160 million years. Along the shores of the river do not be surprised to see fossil imprints from an ancient seabed, printed on slabs of stone.Deep Creek Fish Hatchery - Raising Chinook salmon from eggs at Kalum River Hatchery is our main goal at the Deep Creek Hatcher. The building is constructed out of red cedar poles, in a post and beam fashion. The poles were donated to Kitsumkalum by the Bell Pole Company of Terrace, British Columbia. The dimensions of the building are approximately 9 x 20 metres with the incubation and wet lab area comprising thirty percent of the area.

Exchamsiks Provincial Park
This is a beautiful park features an old growth forest of giant Sitka spruce and is at the confluence of the Exchamsiks and Skeena Rivers west of Terrace. You can walk along the river or walk the self-guided nature trail. Call 250-847-7320 for more information.

Falls Gallery
The Falls Gallery contains gifts and souvenirs made by BC artisans which include wood, clay, and textiles. Along with non-aboriginal art, there are framed prints, First Nations jewelry and art, and wood and clay items. First Nations carvers demonstrate their work at selected times throughout the year. Grand Trunk Pathway
Take a stroll along this pathway and enjoy sites along the way. Locals refer to this as “the millennium park” or “millennium trail.” Perhaps that’s because it opened in 2000 when it was officially named the Grand Trunk Pathway, taken from the name of the first railroad to forge across the north. Since its opening, the pathway has fast become a popular spot for outdoor enjoyment. Do not miss the storyboards depicting history of the area, benches for sitting and a few picnic tables. The main parking area for the pathway is at the east end, near the corner of Hwy16 and Eby, almost right across the highway from the ambulance station.

Heritage Park
This is an old world pioneer village a hands-on museum where costumed guides lead visitors through a collection of the original log buildings depicting the history of the early pioneers of the Terrace region.

Lakelse Lake
Lakelse Lake offers great swimming beaches, a shaded picnic area, and a hiking trail through an old-growth forest of towering spruce, cedar, and hemlock. The well-known hot springs complex is in the valley bottom east of Lakelse Lake. There is a large supply of hot water here, and one of the numerous springs has the hottest spring water in Canada. The pools are open year round.

Lakelse Provincial Park & Lakelse Hot Springs
The Lakelse Lake Provincial Park and its popular campground are located near Mount Layton Hot Springs, between Terrace and Kitimat. Lakelse Lake Provincial Park is a great spot for windsurfing, waterskiing, and jet-skiing on Lakelse Lake. The waters around Lakelse Lake support both steelhead, rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, and five species of Pacific salmon. Lakelse Lake Provincial Park is located in Northern British Columbia, 12.5 miles (20 km) south of Terrace on Highway 37, which leads to the community of Kitimat on Minette Bay. Mount Layton Hot Springs
Mount Layton Hot Springs is located at Lakelse Lake 15 minutes south of Terrace, the hub of Northern British Columbia. Featuring a natural hot spa with children's pool and waterslides.

Old Copper City
On the north side of the Skeena River, east of Terrace Mountain, Old Copper City features the site of a riverboat landing, homesteads dating back to the 1890s, and the remains of orchards and flower gardens.

Shames Mountain Ski Hill
If you are looking for great powder skiing with spectacular mountain views, then you have found it here! The resort boasts more snow than any lift-served ski area in North America. Onion Lake cross-country ski trail system is maintained by a dedicated group of volunteers and now offers nighttime skiing. Our local mountains are blanketed with enough powder to permit snowmobilers an extended season compared to other regions.

Skeena River
The Skeena River is the second largest river system in the province. To the native Nisga'a people, the "Skeena" means "River of Mists," and within its valleys you will find countless rivers and streams that flow rich with Pacific salmon, trout and steelhead. This area held the world-record Chinook salmon of 92 and one-half pounds; the record coho salmon which weighed in at 25 and one-half pounds; and a 36-pound steelhead. If you like fishing, then you cannot miss this great lake and all it has to offer.

Skeena Valley Farmers Market
The Market is held on Saturdays 9am - 1pm; Wednesdays 4 - 7pm during the months of May – October at the Lower Little Park. You will find a large selection of fresh produce and local arts and crafts. Come early and catch the best finds at Terrace's Farmers Market. You will be surprised to also find anything from a vast variety of bedding plants in the spring, to fresh-baked goods and locally grown produce and fresh-cut flowers throughout the summer. There is no entrance fee, so come socialize with the locals and try the delicious food, wander through the crafts section and take home an armful of flowers or a basket of fruit and vegetables. Skeena Valley Golf & Country Club

Terrace Art Gallery
In the heart of downtown Terrace, the Terrace Art Gallery hosts exhibits by artists from the area and from around B.C. and Canada. The gallery hosts a member craft show at Christmas, and the summer exhibit features work by members of the Terrace Art Association in a variety of art mediums. The gallery is located in the basement of the Terrace Public Library in beautiful George Little Park.
